WHERAS SAME unequivocally supports the cause of organized Labor, and the right of workers to unite to resist attacks by often exploitative and discriminatory employers
 
WHERAS 10 News has been known, in its effort to deny its workforce a fair contract, to bait and intimidate employees on the basis of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, (as well as race, gender and age)
 

Letter to Belly Up Tavern regarding Buju Banton Concert

On the night of June 24, 2004, six gay men were driven from their home in Kingston, Jamaica and brutally beaten by a group of assailants who hurled gay slurs at them.  At least one of the men is permanently disabled from the attack, having lost the use of one of his eyes.  Amnesty International confirmed that one of the attackers was the reggae artist Buju Banton.  Contrary to some reports, Banton was never acquitted of the charges; they were unsurprisingly dropped by law enforcement.

Over the past year, Labor and the local LGBT community have come together in support of each other for several causes.

Labor and the LGBT community share many common issues, including the boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt and efforts to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

Support for boycott of Barra Barra and Fiestas de Reyes restaurants

We, members and supporters of the San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality (SAME), a grassroots alliance that has been in the forefront of the movement for marriage equality in San Diego, stand in solidarity with the struggle of restaurant workers in Old Town for their jobs. We also support UNITE HERE Local 30’s call for a boycott of Barra Barra and Fiestas de Reyes restaurants until a just resolution is reached.
