Thursday is Marriage Day! - No License, NO PEACE! Time Change

Date/Time:
08/19/2010 - 1:00am

Thursday August 19th, at 8AM, the day after the expiration of the stay on Judge Walker's decision, SAME will be joining Brian & Michael, and other couples whose day of justice has arrived! We'll be at the County clerk's office to to request their marriages licenses and celebrate their right to marry. On Aug 12th, Judge Walker denied the request to stay his decision on all grounds, and additionally speculated that opponents of equality would have little chance of winning an appeal - even questioning whether the defenders of Prop 8 have legal grounds to launch such an appeal.

All is not yet safe, if the 9th Dist Court accepts the appeal, and imposes a new stay on Judge Walker's historic finding that Prop 8 is unconstitutional, gays and lesbians will be forced, once again, to wait for their fundamental right to marry. BUT WE WON"T WAIT!. On Thursday, we will be at the clerk's office to demand marriage licenses for same-sex couple who want to marry, and we will sit-in until those licenses are issued.

Adriane Bracciale from SAME has written an open letter to the 9th Circuit Court (look for it later today) to ask them to heed Walker's decision, and to make it known that we expect to be married immediately now that Judge Walker has lifted the stay on his clear ruling that their is no reason to deny same-sex couples their fundamental right to marry.

Join us Wednesday 5PM at the County Clerk's office to celebrate what we hope will be the permanent lifting of the stay on same-sex marriages in California.

But in the event that the 9th Circuit Court intervenes - please join us Thursday inside, or rally outside the County Clerk's Office in support, -while Brian, Michael, and other Californians demand their immediate right to marry in California.

We won't wait, marriage is everyone's right.
Justice delayed is justice denied!
